Brickyard course
A hilly (some would just say ‘rolling’) route along the Carquinez Strait, starting in Martinez. Much of it is a closed road which has half fallen down into the bay. At least there’s no cars, and pretty views off the side of the road.
The start is generally Rankin Park,at the end of Buckley Street in Martinez.
Each year the Brickyard race is held here. The brickyard course is 8 miles (for the ‘full brickyard’), 4 out and back. For this distance you turn back when you reach the brickyard driveway. You can also continue up the road (not closed to traffic, but infrequently used) for at least another couple of miles, though it gets even hiller.
Great training for the Big Sur Marathon or any hilly road race.
