Nice effort Peter,

This was my first half, and i enjoyed your narrative of last year's event. I too strugled in the swim ( 58.00) and could never get going.
Frustrating given my training times. I thought the bike and run courses were perfect. I wanted to break 7 hrs for my first HIM, but jst missed
(7:01) looking forward to next years event, and maybe warmer water :)

Congrats to you,

Todd #303 50-54 grp.

I think there's little difference in terms of elevation gain/loss. The changes are probably just for the benefit of local traffic. The first 10 miles of the course is still uphill. The change to run along the west side of the Hwy 13 is a little more even I'd say which might make it slightly easier though that section, and I think that side is a bit nicer. There's some views to be had right after Park Blvd and then you run alongside the top end of Sausal Creek which is quite nice. After that it's houses on one side and freeway the other until you get to the temple. The main downhill is still there that people didn't like. I don't know about the change to Coolidge, because Fruitvale is a fun stretch to run along so I guess that's for local traffic reasons too.

Overall I'm glad they kept the course much the same. It's really a great course.

Peter:

My comment on your SF vs. Oakland Marathon profiles bounced back at me, perhaps too old (like me).

Have you looked at the "new" Oakland course? They haven't published a new profile yet. It doesn't look like a big change, perhaps cutting back by 100 vertical feet. I would be interested in your impression.

It looks like you have a nice family.

Happy Holidays,

Craig Newport

Thanks for your analysis of Oakland vs. SF profiles. Do you have an opinion on the 2011 version of the course?

It would be interesting to see the Napa course too, since runners are often choosing between these two March races.

Good luck on your part-time activities.

Sincerely,
Craig Newport

Hi Kelly!

You certainly are growing up fast. I am glad you like the skirt - I thought of you straight away when I saw it in the shop.

Love to all three

Congrats on finishing your first half ironman! It was a tough day at there and you didn't give up : ) You're a champion to me and I know Patty and Kelly are very proud of you. I hope you are proud of yourself too! Next time, you'll be healed and hopefully the race day conditions will be much better! It would be awesome if we found a half to do together, even if it's next year :) Enjoy your vacation and we'll catch up more later!

Do you think you could send some flat roads this way. I would kill for some flat riding, especially on days when I'm just tired of the hills but would like to ride, and those days seem rather common around now.
