Barbie snacks
This past weekend Patty and I headed back to Lake Chabot for another long trail run in the hills.
Our plan was to extend our distance a little but hold the elevation gain down. Both of us felt a little beat up during the week after doing the 20k sequoia loop the week before so we were looking for a slight fallback in intensity.
The run was really beautiful. We started this time at Bort Meadows, running from there around the lake via the trails closest to the lake.
Unfortunately there was two problems. The first was we added up the distance wrong: 14 miles instead of 12. The second problem was Patty forgot her water bottle which also contained half our food.
For the latter problem we took stock of our supplies at the car. There was water on the course so that was less of a problem. The real problem was food. Luckily we found three packets of barbie snacks in the car. Apart from the bright girly colors they are basically just sugar and not much different from a cliff shotblock of gunny bear. It turned out with the extra distance we didn’t expect to run these really saved our run!
More technical details of the run can be found here. We were gone just over 3 hours, pretty much taking it easy around the lake.
Afterwards we had our first ice bath for the year. It’s hard to say if that helped, or we are getting fitter, or if taking it a little easier helped, but our legs feel much better this week.
